The Midwest has many fine but aging cast-in-place concrete pools nearing the end of their useful lives–there is a way to rejuvenate these old tanks, even the ones with major performance issues.

Create a new pool within the old pool! RenovAction is a system which takes the essential component of the Myrtha pool system—stainless steel panels laminated with a rigid, durable PVC surface—and uses a pool’s existing concrete structure to anchor it all in place. We think the Myrtha RenovAction system is an efficient, environmentally responsible choice, and is a great way to make good use of your existing space—transforming your old pool into a spectacular asset!

Since the Myrtha component system is relatively simple to update, it can be viewed as a truly permanent solution. Committing to a Myrtha pool also means committing to a partnership that will extend to the full lifespan of the pool.

A new gutter system is placed inside the existing gutter. Efficient!

The savings are two-fold. First, by using the remaining strength of the concrete sidewalls as a kind of structural platform, less stainless steel is needed than with a standard/new Myrtha installation. Second, minimal excavation is needed. The result is a completely new pool that carries with it a performance assurance that is identical to a standard/new Myrtha installation. That is, a 25-year warranty on the structure, and a 10-year warranty on the finished surfaces.

Here are some recent examples of Midwestern RenovAction projects:

Rochester Rec Center

The Rochester (Minn.) Rec Center was originally cast-in-place concrete, and they wanted to expand the pool structure to host 50-meter swimming competitions. The solution was to apply RenovAction over the existing pool walls, and blend that together with new section of standard Myrtha panels. The result is a sparkling indoor natatorium which has become a hub for some of the biggest swimming meets in Minnesota.

RenovAction is also an excellent choice when preserving historic heritage is a priority. At the Cleveland Athletic Club, the elevated pool was constructed in 1908 and witnessed the development of swimming as a competitive sport, and was the site of a world record performance by Johnny Weismuller in 1922. The Myrtha RenovAction system provided a complete updating of the pool, and the Club also was able to salvage the original intricate deck tile to maintain the classic, vintage appeal of the site.

As an exciting complement to RenovAction, Myrtha is proud to begin introducing Breathe, a pool gutter system designed to help improve air and water quality for indoor pools. Even pools with historically difficult air-handling challenges will be able to markedly improve the experience for those spending time in the water.
